Plants are the turning point of luminous energy which can be transformed into chemical energy or organic substances. It is supposed that energy emanation of plants must be intense. Shape and color change according to health, nutrition and, perhaps mood, stress and depression are determined by soil conditions and the balance of fertilizers. It was supposed that a different energy field indicates different nutritional and health conditions. Thus, healthy plants must show a normal leaf shape whilst unbalanced, sick or parasitized plants would suffer the effect of magneto restriction or dilatation as shown by Hartmann and Thermolet-Lacheisserie (1993). Kirlian method, modified by Milhomens (1975), was applied in order to photograph magnetic fields.

Since nutrient unbalance and EM (Effective Microorganisms) (Higa, 1991) have a strong effect on plant health it should be verified if it appeared in the electromagnetic field and if health and disease predictions could be made. Trials were made with lettuce (Lactuca sativa), maize (Zea mays), soybeans (Glycine hispida) and cucumber (Cucumis sativus) on a garden soil. Lettuce and cucumber were sprayed on a weekly basis with residues of biodigestor enriched with trace elements at 0,5%, desalinated seawater (Skrill) at 1,5%, EM at 0,1% and sterilized weed sap at 2,5%. Leaves were collected two weeks after emergence.

Maize and soybeans received normal and excessive applications of N, P and K exclusively and other N, P and K applications were balanced by Cu, Zn and B with and without EM. Four weeks after emergence, leaf samples were placed in moist, refrigerated boxes for transportation. Photos were made some 10 minutes later.

Results show that at nutritional unbalances, plants suffer a very strong energy loss, ruining their resistance to plagues and diseases. Nitrogen, regardless its organic or chemical form, always affects plant health negatively when not balanced by Cu. However, nitrogen always provokes the lack of other trace elements. By adding EM the lack of trace elements seems to be reduced. Phosphorous needs to be balanced by Zn and EM. K excess incites a strong boron lack and Spodoptera attack to maize. Otherwise, plants attacked by parasites, like Aphides, show an extremely high energy loss and a stress up to madness indicated by the orange color.

Chemical defensives can prevent plant from being attacked by pests or plagues but cannot improve their biological conditions as it was shown in an experience with gladiolus.

Kirilian photos of plants enable to verify nutritional unbalances, susceptibility to parasites and their biological value.
