Ecological olive production is a feasible first step towards a long term solution for the shortcomings of current olive production, in the Mediterranean area. Therefore an innovative pilot research project is being laid out, aimed at the design, development and evaluation of ecological olive production, in co-operation with a pilot group of ecological farmers. The on farm participatory learning and the ecological knowledge system in prototyping olive production are discussed. Besides, it is discussed the formation of an agri- environmental group and the diffusion of the prototypes in the rural area.
